FX Cat (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) is a currency conversion app for iPhone and Android. We designed FX Cat to do its job with as little personal data as possible. This page explains what we collect, what we don't, and the choices you have.
Summary
- We don't ask you to create an account.
- Your saved currencies, conversions, and preferences stay on your device.
- The camera is used only on-device to scan prices. Images are not uploaded.
- We show ads through Google AdMob, which may collect data per its own policy.
- We don't sell your personal data.
Information we collect
Information you provide
FX Cat doesn't require an account. Currencies you pick, amounts you convert, saved price checks, and app settings are stored locally on your device. The home screen widget reads from this same locally stored conversion data. On iPhone, if you have iCloud Backup enabled, this on-device data may be included in your private iCloud backup managed by Apple. On Android, your saved checks are deliberately excluded from cloud backup and device transfer, so they stay on your device.
Camera
With your permission, FX Cat uses the camera to scan price tags, menus, and receipts. Image processing happens on your device. We do not upload, store, or transmit camera images or scanned text to our servers. You can revoke camera access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera, or on Android in Settings → Apps → FX Cat → Permissions → Camera.
Exchange rates
FX Cat retrieves exchange-rate data from a third-party exchange-rate service based on central-bank reference rates. When rates are refreshed, the service may receive technical request information such as your IP address and selected currencies. FX Cat does not send your saved price checks, notes, camera images, scanned prices, or personal identifiers to the exchange-rate service.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
FX Cat displays ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers, approximate location derived from IP, ad interaction data, and similar information to deliver and measure ads. On iOS, tracking permission is governed by Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt. You can change this at any time under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, or disable “Allow Apps to Request to Track” to deny all such prompts. On Android, ad consent is handled through Google's User Messaging Platform; you can review or change your choice via Privacy choices in the app's Settings, and manage your advertising ID under Android Settings → Google → Ads. When tracking or personalization is not permitted, AdMob may still serve non-personalized ads.

Diagnostics
If you opt in to share analytics with app developers — in iOS Settings on iPhone, or via Google Play on Android — Apple or Google may share anonymized crash and performance data with us so we can fix bugs. We do not receive your name, email, or contact information through this channel.
How we use information
- To convert currencies and display accurate exchange rates.
- To let you scan prices using your device's camera.
- To store your saved checks, recents, and preferences on your device.
- To serve and measure ads through Google AdMob.
- To diagnose crashes and improve the app.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal information.
- We don't upload your photos or scanned images to our servers.
- We don't require an account, email, or phone number to use the app.
- FX Cat itself does not track you across other companies' apps and websites. Google AdMob may do so if you allow tracking via the iOS ATT prompt or the Android consent form.
Third-party services
FX Cat relies on a small number of third-party services to function:
- Google AdMob — to display advertisements.
- Exchange-rate service — a third-party service based on central-bank reference rates, used to fetch current FX rates.
- Apple — for app distribution on iPhone, optional iCloud backup, and optional opt-in diagnostics.
- Google — for app distribution via Google Play on Android and optional opt-in diagnostics.
- Tally — the contact form on our support page is powered by Tally. If you submit the form, your message and any details you include are stored by Tally on our behalf so we can read and reply. See Tally's privacy policy.
Each of these services has its own privacy policy that applies to data they receive.
Controls available on your device
Standard device settings apply. On iPhone, camera permission can be changed under Privacy & Security → Camera and ad tracking under Privacy & Security → Tracking. On Android, camera permission lives under Settings → Apps → FX Cat → Permissions, and ad consent under Privacy choices in the app's Settings. On both platforms, uninstalling the app removes locally stored data.
This website
This website may use basic technical storage, such as localStorage, to remember that you have seen our privacy notice. The website does not intentionally include advertising cookies or third-party marketing trackers.
This site was created with Lovable and may be served through our website platform or hosting provider.
Like most websites, our website platform or hosting provider may process technical information such as IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp, error logs, and similar data for security, abuse prevention, reliability, and service operation. These logs are not used by FX Cat to build a profile of you.
Legal bases (EU / UK)
For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our legal bases for processing are: consent where required, such as camera access and app tracking permission; legitimate interests, such as basic app operation, security logs, crash diagnostics, fraud prevention, and reliability; and legal obligation where applicable. Core app functionality is provided without an account. GDPR rights apply as described in the regulation.
California (CPRA) and other US states
We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising shown in the app via Google AdMob may, depending on device settings, qualify as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under CPRA. Depending on where you live, you may have privacy rights under applicable state privacy laws. You can contact us through the support page to exercise those rights.
Mainland China (PIPL)
If you use FX Cat in mainland China, we process the minimum personal information necessary to provide the app: on-device camera input for scanning (not transmitted off the device), exchange-rate requests, and — if applicable — advertising identifiers used by Google AdMob. Some processing may involve transfers outside mainland China through the third-party services listed above, each governed by its own policies and applicable transfer mechanisms.
International data transfers
FX Cat relies on globally distributed services (Apple, Google AdMob, our exchange-rate provider, and our website host). Your information may be processed in countries other than the one you live in. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms made available by those providers.
Data retention
On-device data (saved checks, preferences, recents) is retained until you delete it or uninstall the app. Server access logs for this website are retained for a short period needed for security and reliability and then discarded or anonymized.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “Last updated” date.
